Fun: Vacation II - The Stay!

Today's post I wanted to share a bit about the hotel we stayed at during our trip - The Hyatt Place FairLawn/Paramus. (for more info click here)

The first thing I noticed about this hotel, being a coffee lover, was that the lobby actually has  a mini Starbucks! And I looooove Starbucks! They serve the hot Starbucks drinks (I enjoyed a caramel latte every morning, grande size for only $2.40!), and they serve free regular Starbucks coffee every morning with their continental breakfast! Their Starbucks bar also includes the regular baked goods you'd find at Starbucks, though I didn't try any - having eaten out everyday the last thing I wanted in the morning was a big sweet!

Aside from the coffee, you can also order a number of cocktails and beers. I tried their cosmo one night and was impressed! They also give the option of ordering meals, including a hot breakfast if you prefer over their continental one.

Now, if the room was horrible, even having a Starbucks would not make up for that (I can''t imagine spending a week in a horrible hotel room with two kids!) Luckily, the room exceeded what we expected!
We reserved a room with two double beds- one for myself and my husband, one for our son, and for our daughter we brought her playpen. We basically expected a room with two beds, a bathroom, and a nightstand. but were pleasantly surprised to see our room!
The room featured a section with our two beds, separated from the rest of the room by a nice partition. Across from the beds was a sink for toiletry use (basically the bathroom sink) - a nice wide counter below it with drawers, and the regular daily fresh hotel towels. The bathroom was basically a bathtub/shower, and a toilet.  I also liked the lighting in the room - not too harsh!
the toiletry sink (yes that's me in the mirror! hehe)

The other side of the room was what we loved - a nice comfy sectional couch, with a widescreen tv, a desk, and a small kitchenette - a sink, coffee/tea machine, and a mini fridge. The room was also clean, and smelled fresh, and the air conditioner worked great!

After the room, a prerequisite for my 9 year old son concerning hotels is that they must have a pool! The Hyatt Place had one and it was great!

our couch for the week
It was actually my nine month old daughters first time swimming (yay!) so I was a bit nervous about the pool being cold and her having a bad experience. But the temperature was actually great everyday, not too hot, but not cold, and it was well kept. Everytime we went in we were the only ones swimming, but I'm guessing that's because it's still school time!

Aide from those the hotel's breakfast was pretty decent - regular fare of cereal, oatmeal, fruit, bagels, toast, and juice every morning, as well as a different treat everyday such as donuts or muffins. And of course the Starbucks coffees and teas!

All in all, I'd recommend this hotel to anyone looing to stay in New Jersey and close to New York city (it was only about a 30 min drive, not bad at all!)
