Snow White and the Huntsman Review

My husband and I don';t go out for date nights very often, mostly because we love to be home with the kids, and spend evenings together on the couch! But there is at least a night every month we venture out together alone, without the kids and date each other again! Usually this involves a movie, and this time, it was Snow White and the Huntsman! One I've been wanting to see since it was released!

First off, I'll say this movie is definitely not your Disney Snow White! and sooo not for kids! The Gothic-type fairy tale begins with Snow White's father re-marrying after her mother dies. Of course, he marries the evil queen (played very well by Charlize Theron!) and she kills him in order to take over the kingdom. Mayhem follows, and Snow White (Kristin Stewart) is locked away!
, Escaping years later , Snow White discovers the evil queen's secret to staying 'the fairest of them all' (yes there is a magic mirror!) and runs off.
The queen, wanting Snow White to take her beauty, sends a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) after her - a sad, lost huntsman who has lost his wife and spends his days drinking away. Promising him his wife's life back, the queen sends the huntsman out after Snow White into the dark forest.
What follows is a (somewhat scary) adventure in friendship, hints of romance, and childhood friends, and yes!, dwarfs! There are also moments of 'magic' that are kind of cheesy, but I love that stuff!
The ending I must say is awesome! Especially if you're a fan of strong female heroines - not your helpless Disney princesses!
I would highly recommend this movie!
As far as age goes, I'd say 13+
